Reaching Tyrol is very simple: from U.S.A. you shall fly to London or Liverpool and take a direct flight from there to the small airport of Innsbruck, where you’ll find me at the Exit on my car, ready to lead you the whole week, discovering each day a different valley, each time a new peak, surrounded by neverending white spaces. In the winter-plan we are based in Innsbruck and we’ll start from there each day towards a different destination.
Day 1 Arriving at the airport Insbruck, we transfer to “Pension Paula” http://www.pensionpaula.at/english/index.htm (32 € single room, 52 € double room) or to the Youth Hostel www.youth-hostel-innsbruck.at (34 € single room, 52 € double room), two economic but nice accommodations. After a briefing about the organizing aspects, we’ll take a walk in the old town and have dinner in a typical Austrian restaurant.
Day 2 We’ll climb the Grubenkopf (2307 m.) in the Obernberg Valley. An ascent within 900 meters of difference in altitude in the classics and beloved mountains of the tyrolean people. A panoramic peak which will let us know the territory from a nice point of view. Turning back to Innsbruck, we’ll dip in the everyday life going to the DEZ, the commercial zone of Innsbruck.
Day 3 We’ll climb the Naviser Kreuzjochl (2536 m.) in the Navis Valley. This is one of the most characteristic points of Tyrol, a small valley with a small village and a high peak which will be ours! 1146 m of difference in altitude. At the return we’ll visit the great abbey of Maria Waldrast, the most impressing of Tyrol in a beautiful panoramic position. We’ll eat at the relative restaurant.
Day 4 Time to relax and a visit to the town of Innsbruck in the morning, a light lunch. After lunch we’ll make the long way to Rifugio Potsdamer www.potsdamer.at where we’ll be received in their characteristic cottage. Half board 25€.
Day 5 Departure from Rifugio Potsdamer. We’ll climb the Roter Kogel (2832 m.) and from its peak we’ll get down to the valley, descending 1800 meters all at once. Return to Innsbruck.
Day 6 We’ll climb the Gilfert (2506 m.), one of the most classical peaks of Tyrol which boasts a record: the biggest cross ever seen! 1219 meters of difference in altitude. Returning to Innsbruck we’ll go to relax in a swimming pool and have dinner in the town centre.
