Ski Safari Dolomites

begin the ski safari in the dolomites

“THE FIRST HANDBOOK ABOUT SKI SAFARI IN THE DOLOMITES”

If you are looking for information about a Dolomites Ski Safari, you are in the right place! You will need only a few minutes to download (free) and read these informative pages, and then email me your questions about arranging your own Ski Safari in the Dolomites.  Remember : I am a professional IFMGA-certified Mountain Guide of the Dolomites with 30 years of experience in these mountains.  For the Ski Safari in the Dolomites, my specialty is to prepare personal programs for every client.  Indeed, this is my work philosophy!

And now, please take 10 minutes of your time to read " The first handbook of the Ski Safari Dolomites"

STEP 1 (How to get to the Dolomites)
It’s easy!  Please download and read the "INFO 3" PDF file from my logistics web page: "Katia´s Dolomites Information". Then email me your questions about flights, trains or rental cars. I can help you, step by step, with any aspect of the organization of your trip in Italy and with the Ski Safari Dolomites tour.

STEP 2 (What do you need to carry during the Ski Safari Dolomites?)
For your Ski Safari in the Dolomites, you will need a small backpack (20/25 liters) with the essentials as shown in the photo below, “CHECK THIS LIST!”. It's a minimal list, for sure, but remember that you will carry this backpack all day, every day of your Ski Safari. Don't plan to carry heavy toiletries kits, iPads or PCs, heavy cameras and other big components......

STEP 3 (Where do you rent ski gear for the Dolomites Ski Safari?)
If you are an exacting skier, I suggest that you bring your complete personal ski gear (skis, helmet, etc...). An alternative possibility, and frequently a good solution, is to bring only your ski boots and rent the skis and poles on the first day from the "K&K Sport" shop of Alpe di Siusi - Seiser Alm.

STEP 4 (How do you reserve the Dolomiti SuperSki ticket?)
Buy the Dolomiti Super Ski pass for the number of days needed via the internet.

STEP 5 (Read the modular program and choose the number of days and your preferred dates.)
Remember: I can customize this program to meet your needs and desires. The complete Ski Safari in the Dolomites tour is 7 days, but it is possible to organize shorter versions from 2 to 6 days long.

“THE PROGRAM FOR THE COMPLETE SKI SAFARI IN THE DOLOMITES”

The arrival day
When you arrive in Bolzano, we meet at your accommodation: generally the Hotel Figl. This hotel is now your "base camp" for your Dolomites skiing holiday and these friendly people will store the rest of your luggage during the Dolomites Ski Safari tour days. We will have an organizational briefing in the evening where we will double-check equipment and general preparedness. You will begin your immersion in the  atmosphere of the Dolomites with dinner at the traditional Hopfen Restaurant (with homemade beer and bread.... not a bad start!).

DAY 1 (from Bolzano to Sella Pass)  YouTube300 watch my YouTube video
Starting from Bolzano, we’ll reach Castelrotto by skibus in about 40 minutes. Here it is possible to rent skis at the local "K&K Sport" shop. By cableway we’ll go up to the “Alpe di Siusi”. We first go through the ski area of Siusi, coming down to the Gardena valley, and then go over all its slopes up to the Sella Pass. Overnight stay at the wonderful "Refuge Valentini”, one of the oldest refuges in the Dolomites.

Day 2 (from Sella Pass to the Marmolada)  YouTube300 watch my YouTube video
This is a long day of Ski Safari in the Dolomites. We start out downhill to the Pian dei Schiavaneis, then uphill to Pordoi Pass. Downhill again to Arabba, and uphill to Padon Pass. Downhill to the Malga Ciapela and uphill by cableway to the top of the Marmoladathe highest summit of the Dolomites. After enjoying the mountaintop, we cruise down the longest slope of the Dolomites (2100 m), continuing to the picturesque village of Sottoguda.  We’ll stay at the guest house “La Montanara” or take the skibus to another nearby hotel at the lake of Alleghe.

Day 3 (from the Marmolada to Cortina)  YouTube300 watch my YouTube video
Ski safari day to enjoy the Civetta ski areas and more. From Alleghe, we take the skibus and then the cableway uphill to the central ski area of the “Civetta”, then cross downhill towards Selva di Cadore. Next we catch the skibus to the ski resort of the Averau, take the lifts up and cross over for a nice downhill run on the famous Cinque Torri slopes. Then we take another skibus to Cortina.  Overnight in Cortina at the "Hotel Villa Neve", or at Falzarego pass at "Rifugio Lagazuoi", or "Rifugio Col Gallina."

Day 4 (Ski the three Cortina areas) YouTube300 watch my YouTube video
This Dolomites ski safari day is dedicated to the three ski areas of Cortina. We’ll start with the Tofana ski area and, after a suitable warm-up, we’ll face the famous “black slope” before it is tracked up by too many other skiers. This slope connects the upper ski area to the lower one. Then, in the afternoon, we’ll cross over the valley, first to the Faloria ski area and then to the Cristallo ski area.  Finally, we’ll go back to the "Hotel Villa Neve", or to the "Rifugio Col Gallina" on Falzarego pass.

Day 5 (from Cortina to the Badia valley) YouTube300 watch my YouTube video
We take the skibus from Cortina up to the Falzarego Pass (if we spent the night in Cortina). Then it is uphill over the Lagazuoi peak and downhill on the long slope to Capanna Alpina. Still on skis, we’ll be pulled by horses up to the ski-lifts of Badia Valley (Yes, horses!).  We’ll pass through the whole ski area of Cherz-Pralongià-Piz la Ila, and downhill to La Villa over the amazing slope of the Gran Risa. Then uphill to the Gardenaccia, downhill to Pedraces, and uphill again to the ancient Sanctuary of Sasc dl Crusc. We will overnight at the renaissance-era gothic building or at a hotel in the valley.

Day 6 (from the Badia valley to the Fassa valley) YouTube300 watch my YouTube video
The Ski Safari in the Dolomites plan for today begins with the long downhill to Pedraces and, via several ski slopes, up to Corvara. Then uphill over the Gardena Pass, downhill to Selva in Gardena Valley, uphill over the Ciampinoi mount and a repetition of just four ski slopes to get back to Sella Pass (the intersection of this figure-8 route for the ski safari in the Dolomites). From here, we head directly downhill to the village of Canazei in Fassa Valley. A short skibus ride takes us to Alba di Canazei, than we head uphill over the Collac, downhill in Giumela valley, and finally uphill again to the Buffaure ski area.  Here we overnight at the classic Baita Cuz, another super panoramic private mountain hut.

Day 7 (from the Fassa valley back to Bolzano) YouTube300 watch my YouTube video
This is the last day of the Dolomites Ski Safari! We start out uphill to the ski-resort of Predazzo, then downhill to the Pampeago ski area. Enjoying several ski slopes, we’ll pass through this ski area up to Obereggen. We’ll return to Bolzano by skibus in about 40 minutes. There, we’ll reward ourselves with dinner at the ancient restaurant “Cà de Bezzi” in Bolzano (founded in 1480, exactly 12 years before the discovery of America). This is exactly the bounty you’ll deserve after crossing all over the Dolomites on skis.  Congratulations!

WINTER SEASON 2015 - SKI SAFARI PRICES (PER PERSON)
The Ski Safary dolomites prices and costs

Why aren’t lunch and dinner included in the price?
The reason is to allow more flexibility. Some people are vegetarians or have other diet restrictions.  Others may prefer gourmet dining.  It is better if you can make your own dining choices during the Ski Safari Dolomites. In each place, I can recommend the best restaurants to suit your personal preferences.

TIMING:
All winter. January is best because it is "low season"....
