Dolomites Hiking: 6 days (hut to hut)
THE DAY BEFORE (our briefing)
When you will arrive in Bolzano, you’ll be welcomed by your mountain guide at your hotel. Sipping a cup of marvelous Italian espresso (or better an “aperitivo”), we’ll have a briefing to discuss about the organizative aspects of your program.
Northern Dolomites hiking tour: DAY 1
Bolzano – from Sexten to Rifugio Locatelli
Walking time: about 3 hrs
Total vertical height difference: climb 951 m.
The first day, on the morning, we start from Bolzano with the train and in two hours arrive in Innichen/San Candito town, where with the shuttle bus arrive directly in the impressive Fiscalina Valley, our starting point.
After the lunch in the panoramic terrace of the Rifugio Fiscalina, begin our trek into the amazing valley the we climb up until the Rifugio Locatelli, the best point of observation of the fantastic Drei Zinnen, the most celebrating “post card” of the Dolomites. Overnight in this old and historical Rifugio of the Dolomites, a good start to enter in the traditional atmosphere of these mountains.

From Rifugio Locatelli to Rifugio Vallandro
Walking time: about 7 hrs (included of the lunch time)
Total vertical height difference: climb 634 m./ down 999 m.
In the second day of trekking we walk before near the impressive north walls of the Drei Zinnen of Lavaredo and then go down along the Rienza valley until the Landro Lake. After the lunch at the refugio of the Lake our path go back up to the opposite side of the Landro valley upon the Rifugio Vallandro. In this day we walk along WW1 paths and cut one time the first line of the front on the Austro-hungarian trenches.

From Rifugio Vallandro to Rifugio Croda del Becco
Walking time: about 7-8 hrs (included of the lunch time)
Total vertical height difference: climb 360 m./ down 61 m.
Today we start in high elevation and continue to maintain this elevation during the full day. Today is a long traverse on plateaus, long mountain sides, passes and paths with a continuously changing of landscapes. A great day into the wilder northern Dolomites! Arrive at the characteristic and small Rifugio Croda del Becco, a mountain hut of 1800.

From Rifugio Croda del Becco to Rifugio Utia de Fanes
Walking time: about 7-8 hrs (included of the lunch time)
Total vertical height difference: climb 995 m./ down 1262 m.
The characteristic of this day is the crossing of the most extended plateau of the Dolomites. From the Rifugio Croda del Becco to the Rifugio Utia de Fanes is a constant walk along this strange geological formation similar at the moon. The difference is that here is full of cows “in summer holidays” on the mountain farms :-). Never seeing a so strange ambient at 2000 meters of elevation on the sea level.

From Rifugio Utia del Fanes to Rifugio Gardenaccia
Walking time: about 9 hrs (included of the lunch time)
Total vertical height difference: climb 1139 m./ down 1150 m.
Today is a very long day… in any case: on the regular route or along the variant of the Sass dl Crusc Sanctuary. But with this second option we can visit the oldest and important medieval Sanctuary of the Dolomites. A incredible construction located in a impressive allocation on the base of the vertical walls of Fanes. We can have our lunch here, at the rifugio of the pilgrims (about 1000 years old) and then continue on the other side of the Badia valley until the Rifugio Gardenaccia.
Northern Dolomites hiking tour: DAY 6
From Rifugio Gardenaccia to Selva di Val Gardena – Bolzano
Walking time: about 6 hrs (included of the lunch time)
Total vertical height difference: climb 498 m./ down 988 m.
The last day is dedicated at one isolated area of the Northern Dolomites, The Puez group. From the Rifugio Gardenaccia we walk up to the Gardenaccia Pass and traverse to the Refugio Puez where we have our lunch, then begin the long descend to Selva di Val Gardena where we will take the local bus to Bolzano (about 1 hrs of travel). Here end your great trek with a good dinner and a visit of the characteristic old Town of Bolzano…. No bad!
DAY 7 and DAY 8 (drawn in the map) are possible extensions of this trekking in the Central Dolomites areas
