Dolomites Trekking: in 5 days
THE DAY BEFORE (our briefing)
When you will arrive in Bolzano, you’ll be welcomed by your mountain guide at your hotel. Sipping a cup of marvelous Italian espresso (or better an “aperitivo”), we’ll have a briefing to discuss about the organizative aspects of your Dolomites trekking.
Central Dolomites Trekking: DAY 1
Catinaccio – Rosengarten group, from Rifugio Paolina to Rifugio Principe
Walking time: about 6 hrs, climb about of 1000 m.
The first day of the Dolomites trekking is dedicated to traverse the Rosengarten group. A sequence of pass and long paths at the base of the southern big wall of the Rosenarten conduce us to Rifugio Principe, a typical refugio in high elevation (2600 m.). A great “overture” for this Dolomites trekking!
Central Dolomites Trekking: DAY 2
Sassolungo – Langkofel group, from Rifugio Principe to Rifugio Valentini
Walking time: about 6-7 hrs , climb about of 705 m.
From Rifugio Principe, the paths of the dolomites trekking can be two, we can overpass the Antermoja big peak of the side north or on the side south. Generally I prefer the side south because the panoramas are more extended especially on the souther Dolomites. then we continue along the famous Frederick August path to the Sella Pass where we overnight in the oldest Refugio of the central Dolomites: the Rifugio Valentini.
Central Dolomites Trekking: DAY 3
Sella group, from Rifugio Valentini to Rifugio Kostner
Walking time: about 6 hrs, climb about of 1100 m.
In this central day of the Dolomites trekking we’ll traverse the Sella group: the “fulcrum of the Dolomites”. We’ll climb the main peak (Piz Boé 3200m.) along the wild internal gullies. This is the largest panoramic point of the Dolomites, then we climb down on the other side to the amazing Rifugio Kostner. Prepare your camera…. because after the dinner you can will take the best photos of the sunset in the Dolomites!
Central Dolomites Trekking: DAY 4
Fanes group, from Rifugio Kostner to Rifugio Lagazuoi
Walking time: about 8 hrs, climb about of 1000 m.
During the fourth day of the Dolomites trekking we will pass from the Central Dolomites to the Eastern Dolomites, this is not or only a pure geographic definition, but we will see the change of the geological struptures of the groups that we will traverse in this long day. Secondary but not for this less important: we will traverse the line of the front of the World War One, and from here we will follow it, along bunkers and trenches, until Cortina. Overnight at Rifugio Lagazuoi (2835 m.).
Central Dolomites Trekking: DAY 5
Tofane group, from Rifugio Lagazuoi to Cortina
Walking time: about 6 hrs, downhill about 1552 m.
The last day of this Dolomites trekking is dedicated at the great panoramic views of the Eastern Dolomites along the paths that follow the line of the front of the WW1 and the souther sides of the 1000m. heigh wall of the Tofana di Rozes. A nice downhill will conduce us to the famous Cortina d’Ampezzo, where with a connections of local bus and train we come back in Bolzano.
